Belle and the Beast at York Residents' Festival

Belle and the Beast at York Residents' Festival

posted 13 Jan 2025

Get ready for a magical day at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on January 26th as we celebrate York Residents’ Festival with a series of enchanting activities inspired by the upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast, produced by the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Company. Perfect for families and fans of this beloved tale, the event promises a day filled with creativity, storytelling, and delicious treats.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Meet Belle and the Beast (10:30am - 1pm): Little ones can meet the stars of the show and capture the magic with a photo. These meet-and-greet sessions will take place twice during the day, lasting 30 minutes each.
  • Storytime with Mrs. Potts (1:30pm): Gather around as Mrs. Potts, in her charming human form, brings the story to life during a special 30-minute reading session.
  • Badge Making: Budding artists can create their own Beauty and the Beast themed badges, with supplies available throughout the day.
  • Themed Refreshments: Treat yourself to an array of themed drinks and baked goods, including Mrs. Potts’ tea and the Disney fan-favorite “Grey Stuff,” prepared by local bakers and company members.
  • Sneak peek of the production: the company will be rehearsing scenes from their upcoming production, giving you a first look at what to expect when the show kicks off on February 4.

There will also be tours of the theatre and its backstage areas running every hour from 10am - 3pm, giving you a peek behind the curtain and hear from our team about what goes into putting on productions.

All events are free to attend, but patrons are encouraged to donate what they can.

All funds raised on the day will go to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre as part of it's mission to bring quality, affordable entertainment, like Beauty and the Beast, to the York community.

We look forward to seeing you there.
