Trustee Recruitment

Are you looking to get involved in your local community?

Working as part of the trustee board, you will have a great opportunity to shape the future of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre at an exciting point in our history. This year we are celebrating our 90th anniversary while also working to improve our facilities and offering for our hirers, volunteers and audience members.

Whether you have experience and want to share it, or a passion to get involved and want to learn, then we could have the role for you.

The roles are voluntary. You will need time to undertake the activities required within the role, usually around 20 hours per month, and other board responsibilities. These include attending regular board meetings and acting as a duty manager to ensure the smooth operation of the theatre during performances.

Trustee roles allow you to gain experience working at a board/strategic level and learn what is involved so no previous experience as a trustee is required. While some of our trustees have theatre related experience, including performing, directing and working backstage this isn’t necessary and we welcome everyone who would like to get involved.

We are looking for people with the following interests, skills or experience:

  • Finance
  • Volunteer or staff coordination and training
  • Working with the local community

The Joseph Rowntree Theatre’s vision is to be an inspiring community hub for performing arts and entertainment and occupies a unique, well-equipped Art Deco building, dating from 1935.

Further details about the specific responsibilities for each role are outlined below:
